This site is designed with the needs of its users in mind. The structure is clean and simple, with more white space than text. This layout and line spacing is fashioned to ensure easy reading and greater retention of the information on the site.
The site also conforms to the norms of modern internet use which aids in user familiarity of the navigation and an understanding of where material is likely to be located on the site.
Navigation is by a simple "list style" menu to ensure tab-able browsing. All pages feature "page up" links and the top of each page features "heirarchical breadcrumb navigation". This ensures that users can quickly find information relevant to their search of the site, even if hitting on it from an external search engine.
This site features a variety of link styles to ensure that there are no surprises for users. These include:
External link icons - links to an external site.
Pop-up window icons - opens up a pop-up window.
Information links - these aren't "clickable", but when rolled over, the tooltip text explains the jargon or acronym used.
Links to external sites open in the same tab or window. This is in keeping with the highest useability standards and conformity with xhtml coding standards. These links are marked with an external link icon. Users who wish to open external sites in another tab or browser may right click (PC) or Ctl+click (Mac) and select the appropriate option from the context menu.
