bluepenguin customers are more than customers to me. Sure, they pay me for a service but we share a journey in the success of their business or oganisation and this makes the people that I build sites for more than customers, we're partners. This means that I take my mobile and laptop on holidays, but it's a fair trade off for the enjoyment that my work brings me.
I do a little moonlighting as an avian consultant, which explains the number of bird related sites of late. However, you'll find business here ranging from small yoga schools to international furniture franchises and Australian Commonwealth Government. Happily the list is always growing and I look forward to adding your company or organisation logo to the list soon.
Doing it for free
It's great to earn my living crafting aesthically pleasing, highly functional tools which bring a great deal of pleasure and profit to others. However, finding good causes to work for at no cost is the best stuff of meaning and purpose in life. This is probably true in your life too.
I have a couple of customers for whom I have created and continue to maintain sites on a pro-bono basis. These are both parts of Birds Australia, the peak Australian NGO for the scientific study of birds and recreational birdwatching. The Australasian Wader Studies Group (AWSG) is a special interest group of Birds Australia and Birds Australia Southern NSW and ACT region (BASNA) is a state organisation under the Birds Australia umbrella.
Both carry out vital conservation works for Australian birdlife and the environment in general (working for the good of one automatically works for the good of the other). It's great to kow that you can help save the planet whilst tapping on a keyboard.
